Further Education Colleges Southampton

Further education (FE) colleges offer a wide range of subjects and qualifications, including academic and vocational (work-based) courses. They cater for school-leavers and adults, and many courses will be attended by people of all ages. Some FE colleges may have more than one site and may even have a separate sixth form centre.

Sixth Form Colleges Southampton

Sixth form colleges can offer a wider range of courses and qualifications than your school's sixth form, and offer students more independence. You will be considered a student, rather than a pupil, and so will be expected to manage your own time and deadlines, giving you the opportunity to gain the organisational skills needed for the workplace or university.

If you have completed Year 11 and have taken your GCSEs, you may be thinking of staying on at school to continue your education. Remaining at the same school will give you the security of staying in a familiar environment with the teachers and tutors that you already know. However, you will probably notice that the atmosphere changes; school sixth forms tend to be more relaxed towards students.

Work-Based Learning Southampton

If you are 16 or 17 and have just left school or college, you are eligible for a work-based training place. Work-Based learning (WBL) gives you the opportunity to learn how to do a job, gain the skills an employer needs, obtain nationally recognised qualifications - all whilst getting paid!
