Open Days Before making a commitment to any university or college, it's important for you to look around the campus so that you can get a 'feel' of the place and talk with staff and students. Most institutions hold Open Days so that prospective students and their families can tour the campus can explore the site, see the accommodation and check out the academic, sporting and social facilities. You'll also get a better idea of the travel time from home. Open Days are usually held during spring and autumn; you may have to book a place in advance or you may simply be allowed to turn up - check the institution's web site for detailed arrangements. If you are unable to make the dates for the open days, you may be able to sign up for a campus visit instead; many institutions run guided tours for small groups of prospective students throughout the year. Alternatively, you can usually visit the institution informally; however, you won't normally be able to meet staff or view facilities inside departments during an independent visit, unless you've made a prior arrangement with the school concerned. Many students say that attending an open day helped them to decide on their first choice of college or university. |
