Work-Based Learning If you are 16 or 17 and have just left school or college, you are eligible for a work-based training place. Work-Based learning (WBL) gives you the opportunity to learn how to do a job, gain the skills an employer needs, obtain nationally recognised qualifications - all whilst getting paid! Two of the most popular routes within WBL are National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Apprenticeships . Depending on your ability, the job you are training for and how far you want to go, training can last from 18 months to four years. When you start your training, you will need to agree an individual learning plan with your training provider. As part of your learning plan, you will work for an employer - either on placement or as a trainee employee. You may also spend up to one day a week at college or with your training provider. Trainee employees are paid the rate for the job, whilst students on placement or in a training centre are paid a training allowance. |
